How to live … how to love

I tore this picture from a calendar seven years ago.

It’s entitled “The Painter’s Cupboard” (1769)

by Antonio Perez De Aguilar

It became  a visual portrait of my life.

instruments, hard covered books and paint brushes on the top shelf

a model or doll in a basket

rolled paper, a note book

two silver plates and two rolls of bread

a used plate

and a decorated plate

one up turned water glass

two wine glasses

one wine glass empty

and waiting

one wine glass full

and waiting.

The cupboard is locked

the key is its cradle

I’ve looked at this painting for seven years running

my life has become this painting

200 years old and counting.

But now,

I have been asked to open the door

to fill the empty wine glass

and have a toast.

To my ghosts.

To the props  of my life.

To the one who came back

blowing  dust from my shelves

bringing love to my life.

thanks for clicking in

always
