(PuppyDog at the RockWell Bridge)
who’s the best dog in town?
Puppy Dog !
It’s Friday April 3rd 2009 and who would have believed it! We passed an truly eventful week throwing us head first into April and all the beauty that month can bring.
Thank you for clicking on today. As mentioned its been quite a wee time over here in Drumshanbo. A big kiss on the cheek to all of us who turned our light out last Friday for Earth Hour Day- I watch the Earth Hour movie on the World Viewz site and it brought a tear to my eye. The movie was a brief history of the Earth Hour beginning in 2007 in Sydney Australia and it showed the city turning off the light and having the most amount of fun in candle lit resturants and torch lit beach parties. Then it showed 2008 and I got to watch 35 cities throughout the world turn the lights off. It was amazing ! Image the San Franscio Bridge turning off… New York Times Square turning off… Rome!….. turning off… and what brought tears streaming down my face was to see my hometown of Toronto- our much loved Younge Street having the lights go out. I haven’t lived in Toronto in almost ten years but it really touched my heart to see that the city understood the neccesity of working as a global community and didn’t shut their eyes, or their hearts or just sit on their arses and do nothing. Well… bravo world aren’t you good! Here’s the address to the World Viewz site….I betcha I didn’t link this correctly… ah well.. copy and paste folks …thanks.

When I think of Toronto , I think of the family and when I think of the family I think hockey.. . here’s a shot of my niece Niamh on ice.
‘She shoots…..she scores…..!!!!’
But lets get back to Apirl in Ireland.
Its scary beautiful weather here. Scary because…we just don’t know what the summer is going to be like and while we all love the sunshime and fair days… we’d rather have rain now and sunshine in July. But…. lets not jinx it… this could be the summer we’ve been waiting for since the 2006 heatwave…. we’ll might as well enjoy it while we can.
And now a few Pictures at the Drumshanbo St Patrick’s Day Parade.
What a great picture of the children of the National School-all lined up at the Food Hub, ready to go, marching in the tunics and headbands that the 4th Class,
Mr Kane’s students created.
Aren’t they great???
Yes they are!!!
Here we have the Padriag Sweeney Music School- whistling and fluting along. And you know for all the attention that sports might have in the county , its the like of Padraig, one man, who teaches over 400 students a week throughout Leitrim. Talk about a living tradition.
But we need to show a photo of the future Allen Gaels champs. There they are- the under 12’s ! Good lads and lassies**
Well we have the High Street pre-parade as folks are getting their flags and checking out the best spots to take the view….
Then we have to our left a shot of the marquee being set up for the musical acts and speakers and here’s a picture of the trophies that were awarded to the best float and the best costume and the best fun….
Now… to our right we have a picture of Eileen’s Boxty. For those of you who aren’t familiar with boxty- that is a potato cake that you fry up along side a few rashers and some sausages for the breakfast and Eileen is a great cook who lives outside Mohill- just over the road, not far from Drumshanbo.
Andto our righ tis a shot of the end of the parade and beginning of the drinking day - it’s Mags Campbell working the bar at Berry’s Tavern. Mags was the brains behind the parade. Herself and Batty Gibbons who runs the Centra Shop came up with the idea that Drumshanbo should have a parade and why not… every other town in Ireland has a parade… why shouldn’t we?!
Then one day Batty saddles up to me at the check out counter and asks if I could get involved and I said I would , surely and so we had a meeting and my job was to get the National School whipped up and … well the rest as they say… is history.
Yup.. that was March . Now if anyone in Drumshanbo has photos of the parade that they could share, please email them to drumshanbostpatricksparade@gmail.com
We are getting an album together for the Drumshanbo Forum website and we’d like as many pictures as possible. Please include your name and who took the shot. Thanks very much.
So … that’s all I’ll send out for today….all the best to all around the world.
Be safe
take care
always
eileen
